Frequently Asked Questions, Caroline Sutherland
What inspired you to write The Body Knows?
I have had the privilege of being involved in the assessment and treatment of thousands of people while working in medical clinics. When these people regained their health by following certain simple procedures, I was fascinated. How could it be so simple? With all the health knowledge that exists today, we are still missing some important pieces. I wanted to write a book that would demystify body processes and give people the tools and the pieces that they could apply toward their own health goals.
What is a Medical Intuitive and how long have you been using this gift?
Medical Intuition is the ability to see beyond the normal levels of perception into the subtle levels below, as this insight pertains to the physical body. I began to receive intuitive impressions about patients in a medical clinic in the early 1980's. Over the years this ability has been honed and refined. I feel continually guided in this endeavor.
What are the most common health problems that people experience?
Over and over and over I see people who are coping with fatigue - tired, tired, tired, and sugar handling problems. It is surprising how fatigue can be so nutritionally based and how overuse of sugars and certain carbohydrates can compound the problem. Another common problem that applies to spiritually oriented people is an over emphasis on emotional clearing instead of a practical focus on nutritional and chemical imbalances which can greatly effect energy and well being.
Describe some of the interesting or unusual cases that you have worked on and how long does it take to see results?
The body is very adept at making changes. All the body wants to do is to regenerate and repair. We just need to give it the tools to do so. Optimum health is not a mystery. If the right equation can be found, the body takes it from there. Often positive changes can take place within a few weeks.
A woman came to me who could not sleep. Intuitively, she fit into a category that I describe in my book as Central Nervous System Stress. This denotes the type of person who is agitated and over-stimulated. The main focus is to remove the stimulants and calm down the system. In four weeks of following a specific program, not only was this woman sleeping better but her stomach aches subsided and several benign breast lumps disappeared. Her body was taxed in a certain area. When these pressures were removed, the body knew what to do to get well.
A twelve-year-old girl was brought to me who would not thrive. It was scary just to look at her. I knew that there had to be a 'lynch pin" which when dislodged, would enable the healing current to return to her body. This was not a physical problem but an emotional problem. Instinct led me to the "nugget", which stemmed from a lack of closeness to the father. When this was defined and the father/daughter bonding took place, the child began to heal.
A well-known medical doctor came to me for help. He was in a weakened state. With all due respect to his great body of knowledge, he had not applied the fundamentals of nutrition to his own body. I instinctively felt a simple regimen of protein-based soup would assist in improving his condition. Soups are easily tolerated and absorbed by the body. In a matter of days, his condition improved and we were on the right track.
Do you think that anyone can develop medical intuitive ability?
Medical Intuitive ability is not the domain of a few people. It is a birthright and very necessary skill, useful to anyone. Everyone needs to know how their body functions and what is required on an individual basis to keep it healthy. Any one can learn to be intuitive if they have the desire. Intuition comes to us moment by moment from the creator, God, the source - the origin of all ideas, creativity and information. As soon as we tap into that source, the instincts flow. But we need to have the "frame work" upon which to "hang" the instincts in order to make them useful. I conduct medical intuitive trainings which teach people.
Your process of identifying certain body profiles and how these profiles experience health and disease is interesting. How did you develop this process?
Every "body" is different and early in my days as a medical intuitive, I viewed each person in front of me as a unique set of complicated processes to be decoded. Over the years, I began to see patterns developing which led me to identify two different body types - the fast ones and the slow ones: The Central Nervous System types and the Digestive, Lymphatic Hormonal types. These two distinct types of people possess characteristic tendencies toward health and disease. These are both physically and personality based and the majority of the people I see, fit into these two categories. When these systems are balanced nutritionally and chemically, people regain their health.
Why do you think that so many of us resist taking the necessary steps toward better health?
Addictions. The power of the addiction is so strong in each person. It can take a Herculean level of emotional and physical mastery to overcome them. In the total health equation, what ever a person exposes themselves to, will effect body chemistry and function. Whether it is smoking, alcohol, drugs, excess sugar, caffeine or chocolate, these will ultimately have an effect on optimum health, if taken to excess. The way through the addictive process is "grow up" and leave the little child behind - the part of us that constantly needs to be fed by the addictions. On a higher level, addictions numb the pain of experiencing life to the full - both the valleys and depths of emotion and the higher, exalted realms.
On a personal level, have you ever had a health challenge and did that lead you into this work?
Yes, very definitely. In the early 1980's I was experiencing some Multiple Sclerosis like symptoms that had me very worried. I sought treatment through alternative medical modalities, which were very successful. So much so, that although I was raised in a traditional medical family, with a doctor father and dietitian mother, I embraced the whole notion that if we knew what the body wanted and we gave the body the right equation, it would get well. Out of personal experience, this became the foundation of the work I do today.
What are your overall impressions of the health of most North Americans?
Given the fact that we are the strongest and most prosperous group of people, sadly our health on a large scale is poor. But, thanks to complementary disciplines, this picture seems to be changing - one body at a time. The fact that optimum health is not a complicated quest, seems to have eluded most people. I want to bring some of these simple tools to the people. When we look collectively at health on a higher or spiritual level, the body is the "vehicle" which houses the soul and the personality enabling it to complete a certain mission or purpose in life. The minute that people get in touch with the "higher" reason for a healthy body, and respect the physical vehicle, it becomes easier to implement the discipline required to preserve it.
